Meet the New Assistant Principal of West Hempstead Middle School

Welcome, Mr. Trapani!

On June 16, the West Hempstead Union Free School District Board of Education promoted Jon Trapani to the new assistant principal for West Hempstead Middle School.

During Mr. Trapani’s fifteen-year educational career, he has taught and supervised students in various academic levels. Most recently, Mr. Trapani served as a Strengthening Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Model Teacher (STLE) for the district, where he has worked collaboratively with students through the creation of lesson plans, providing classroom strategy and support to colleagues.

Prior to becoming an STLE teacher, Mr. Trapani served 13 years as a music teacher for the district. He was the elementary and middle school general music teacher, director of the sixth-grade band and middle school choir, and served as pit director for the high school musical since 2005.

Before establishing himself in the West Hempstead School District, Mr. Trapani worked for P.S. 134 in Hollis and P.S. 135 in Queens Village as a music teacher for grades K-5. Without skipping a beat, Mr. Trapani worked as a music leave replacement for the Plainview-Old Bethpage middle school choir and as a music teacher for the sixth- and seventh-grade students in the Baldwin Middle School, where he also served as the choir director.

Mr. Trapani received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory from Arizona State University and master’s degree in Music Education from Long Island University, C.W. Post.

“It is a great honor and privilege to continue my time here at West Hemsptead Middle School,” said Mr. Trapani. “I am excited and enthusiastic to continue serving this wonderful community and supporting our students in their academic journey. Thank you to all who have helped me along the way.”

Middle School Principal Teresa Grossane welcomes Mr. Trapani as the new assistant principal, stating, “We welcome Mr. Trapani to the administration and believe his dedication and hard work will reflect our philosophy to encourage intellectual growth and recognize the social emotional needs of our students.”
