Memorial, Award in Works for Late Malverne LL Volunteers
Community to honor Dennis Giordano and Bernard Havern Jr.

Within nine months, the Village of Malverne lost two extraordinary residents: Dennis Giordano and Bernard Havern Jr.
Now, residents and friends are working make sure the memories of the late duo live on.
The effort will start with a memorial tree that the Malverne Little League is dedicating to Giordano’s service to the little league and to the community of Malverne. The tree dedication will take place on June 23 at 9:30 a.m. at Whelan Field.

Giordano passed away in January 2013 at the age of 67 after suffering from a sudden heart attack in his sleep.
The long-time Malverne resident was a member of the Malverne Zoning Board, as well as a past president of the Malverne Little League. He was actively involved in little league right up to his passing.

Residents have also proposed a “Volunteer of the Year” for Havern, who passed away at the age of 68 in April 2012.
Havern was extremely active in the community as a former Nassau County police officer. He was also a past president and volunteer in the Malverne Little League, as well as baseball coach for the Malverne Dodgers and Molly College.Get more local news delivered straight to your inbox.
