- Eliminate all nonessential electric use.
- Run air conditioners only if needed for health reasons.
- Use fans instead of air conditioners when possible. Set them to rotate quickly and counterclockwise.
- If air conditioning is needed, set home thermostats or air conditioner units to 78 degrees.
- Non-essential home appliances (washing machines, dishwashers and pool pumps) should be used in the morning or late evening.
- Close blinds and draperies facing the sun to keep out the sun’s heat.
PSEG Long Island says they are doing their part to quickly make repairs and ensure the power stays on by working with third-party owners.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Long Island with a dangerous heat index on Friday of up to 105. It's in effect until 8 p.m. Friday.
