Police ID Uber Driver Who Died In Chain-Reaction Crash On Long Island
The driver crashed into a vehicle, which then careened into a party bus, police say.
LYNBROOK, NY — Police have identified the Uber driver who died in a multi-vehicle crash on Sunrise Highway Sunday as Reginald Scott, 70, of Baldwin.
According to Nassau County police, the crash took place at 10:47 a.m. in Lynbrook. Baldwin was driving a white 2018 Nissan Sentra with a 26-year-old male passenger, heading west on Sunrise Highway, police said.
He struck a white 2012 Audi being operated by a 37-year-old man traveling westbound at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue, detectives said. As a result of the collision, the 2012 Audi collided with a 2011 Freightliner Party bus operated by a 38-year-old man, police said.

The Uber driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a hospital physician, police said. The passenger is in critical condition, police added.
The Audi driver was transported to a local area hospital and was reported in critical condition; the Freightliner operator refused medical attention, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
An Uber spokesperson issued a statement to Patch: "We’re deeply saddened by this tragic crash. We are keeping the driver’s loved ones in our thoughts during this difficult time, and hope the others involved make full recoveries. We are working to check in with the rider, and will assist police however we can."
Uber plans to look into the crash and is working to get in touch with the rider involved to check in with them. In addition, Uber has a team of former law enforcement professionals around the globe who are on call to work with police 24/7 to respond to urgent needs and assist both proactively and reactively with investigations, along with a video about its law enforcement outreach team.
