Woman, 89, Suffers 'Severe Trauma' To Legs After Long Island Crash: Police
Officers rendered immediate life-saving first aid by placing tourniquets on both lower legs to stop excessive bleeding, cops say.
VALLEY STREAM, NY — A 98-year-old woman suffered severe trauma to her lower legs after her Mercedes-Benz struck a Nissan, then a tree in Valley Stream on Saturday, Nassau police said.
The woman was driving a 2023 Mercedes-Benz southbound on Hungry Harbor Road at around 3:44 p.m. before she made a left turn onto Brookfield Road and the vehicle collided with a 2005 Nissan traveling northbound on Hungry Harbor Road, according to police.
The Mercedes-Benz then struck a tree on Brookfield Road, police said, adding that when officers responded, they rendered immediate life-saving first aid by placing tourniquets on both lower legs to stop excessive bleeding.

The woman was taken to an area hospital and is listed in stable condition, police said.
