After three formal budget presentations and several other discussions. The Massapequa Board of Education is going to vote on adopting the 2013/2014 budget Thursday night.
The $186 million spending plan came after a series of difficult cuts including the elimination of 35 teaching positions.
District officials say that the layoffs are related to declining enrollment. It did help close a $6 million budget gap the district was facing when they started putting the plan together.
There was also controversy when a restoration of some state aid allowed the district to restore funds that had been cut to some sports programs.
Several members of the public said that too much of the money went to sports, with some critical of the district’s decision not to restore the Summer Stars program.
We want to know what you think about how this spending plan was put together. What do you agree with? What decisions do you disagree with?
