LONG ISLAND, NY — Severe thunderstorms are possible across Long Island today, according to the National Weather Service. But that gives way to a beautiful and sunny weekend.

Scattered, severe thunderstorms are possible across Long Island today. Those storms could bring damaging winds with them, which is the main concern, the National Weather Service said.

It's only a 50 percent chance of storms today, according to the forecast. And if they do come, they should probably clear by 10 p.m.

AccuWeather called for a "gusty thunderstorm," that could bring flash flooding and isolated damaging wind gusts.

After that, the rest of the weekend is beautiful and sunny. Highs are in the low 80s both Saturday and Sunday. It'll heat up as we go into next week, but should stay sunny.

Today: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. South wind 5 to 14 mph.

Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Northeast wind around 6 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 6 mph becoming calm.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 82. East wind 7 to 9 mph.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 70.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87.
