LI Weather: Warm Temps To Melt Snow Before Cold Plunge Comes

LONG ISLAND, NY — Rising temperatures this week will help clear away the piles of snow across Long Island, but temperatures are going to plummet again at the end of the week.

The forecast from the National Weather Service shows that temperatures across Long Island will be steadily increasing all week, from a high of 31 degrees on Monday to 46 degrees on Friday. That will help melt away much of the snow still in the area.

That warm front, however, won't last long. Temperatures on Saturday are expected to plummet below freezing again, with a predicted high of just 27 degrees.

Plus, there's more bad weather in the forecast. We're likely to get rain Thursday night into Friday, which could turn to snow as the temperature falls. Luckily, it doesn't seem like there's going to be much accumulation.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 18. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph after midnight.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 33. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Northeast wind 6 to 9 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph.

Wednesday Night: Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 38.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of rain after 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 47.

Thursday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Friday: Rain likely before 4 p.m., then rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 46. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Friday Night: Snow likely, mainly before 7 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 27.
