Local Response to the Boston Attack

Peter King has called on State and local police to join feds in maintaining intelligence and counterterrorism efforts. Good idea or overkill?

Last week Americans were stunned by the Boston Marathon bombing and the dramatic events leading to the arrest of  suspect  Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Praise poured in from across the country for the  law enforcement officers who made the arrest. Among those offering congratulations, was Rep. Peter King, R-Seaford, who commended local police in the FBI in a statement issued Friday.

KIng also called on state and local law enforcement agencies to maintain intelligence and counterterrorism  efforts in their communities.

The  idea of law enforcement agencies looking at the activity of American citizens and those in the country legally is often controversial. But at the same time, Tsarnaev is reportedly an American citizen, who emigrated to the U.S. as a child,  and seemed to be flying under the radar of law enforcement.

We want to know what you think.  Should local law enforcement  start up or beef up intelligence and counter terrorism efforts?  Let us know in the comment section below.
