Lottery For Massapequa Preschoolers Being Held

The deadline to apply is June 16.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — Massapequa families can give their children a leg up on education. A preschool lottery is underway in conjunction with Massapequa High School's Family and Consumer Sciences Department.

The cut-off date for applications is June 16, although it may be extended as space permits. There is more information available on the website.

The approximate starting date for the preschool is Nov. 28 and it is expected to run until June 4. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays with morning and afternoon sessions. Enrolled students are expected to take part in both days.

The morning classes will take place from 9:10 to 11:10 a.m., while the afternoon is from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Times are subject to change.

Eligible students must be between ages 3 and 5 (as of Nov. 28, 2023, and not attending kindergarten in the 2023-2024 school year. Children must also be toilet trained.

Enrollment is limited to 18 children per session. Massapequa residents and previous students will previous priority in the lottery.

The program is led by students from the Child Study course and college-level Children in Families course, under the direction of teacher Anna Gregg.
