Man Injured Other Driver In Drunken Nassau Crash: Police
Police say the man was drunk when he hit the back of another car on the Southern State, forcing it off the road and into a tree.
MASSAPEQUA, NY — A Nassau County man was arrested Thursday night after police said he crashed into another car and injured the driver while he was driving drunk.
At 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 5, police said Edgard Platero, 28, of Bethpage, was driving a 2021 Mercedes Benz 220 west on the Southern State Parkway when he crashed into the rear of a 2021 Toyota Tacoma near exit 32 around 10:30 p.m.
The crash caused the Toyota to leave the road and strike a tree on the shoulder, police said. The driver of the Toyota was taken to Nassau University Medical Center with broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Platero was arrested at the scene, police said. He was charged with first-degree vehicular assault with a previous conviction, circumventing/operating without an interlock device and DWI with a previous conviction.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead.
