Massapequa Crime Report: Mother Victimized in Phone Scam

Sept. 12 to Sept. 16.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Grand Larceny

On Sept. 10, a Massapequa woman was scammed by a man claiming her son had been arrested in Mexico, police said. The mother received a call from a man who told her of the bogus bust and said she needed to send $4,000 in a money gram. After the money was wired to Mexico, the mother received another call asking for an additional $4,000, which she also sent. The mom later found out that her son had never been to Mexico.

On Sept. 14 a woman parked he car at Burns Park and went for a jog. When she returned at about 4:15 p.m. she discovered her wallet was stolen, police said. 

Burglary

On Sept. 15,  a burglar broke into a home on Harvard Street in Massapequa at about 10 p.m., police said. The thief entered through a rear window and took jewelry and money.

On Sept. 17 a home on Oakly Street was broken into, police said. A burglar broke in through the front door between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. and stole electronics.

DWI

On Sept. 14, David Weeks,  30 of  Woodmere was arrested on Sunrise Highway near Park Boulevard, Massapequa and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 1st, two counts of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd and two violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Leaving the Scene of an Incident

On Sept. 16, Douglas Caufield, 69 of Bayview Avenue, Massapequa was arrested on Bayview Avenue near Williams Street, Massapequa and charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an incident without a report.

Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle

On Sept. 13, Joseph Cordeira,  21, of  Massapequa, was arrested on Forest Avenue near Merrick Road, Massapequa and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and four violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

On Sept. 14, Daniel Tighe,  21 of  Massapequa, was arrested on Division Avenue, Massapequa and charged with two counts of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 2nd and three violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

On Sept. 14, Michael Fabrizio, 31 of Massapequa, was arrested on Linwood Lane, Massapequa and charged with two counts of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 2nd.

Petty Larceny

On Sept.12, a Georgia woman was arrested at H&M, 1 Sunrise Mall, Massapequa and charged with petty larceny.

On Sept. 15, an Oceanside woman was arrested at Wal-Mart at the Sunrise Mall, Massapequa and charged with petty larceny.

On Sept. 15, a Bay Shore  woman was arrested at Wal-Mart, at the Sunrise Mall and charged with petty larceny and five counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

On Sept.15, a Wyandanch woman was arrested at JC Penny, at the Sunrise Mall, Massapequa and charged with petty larceny.

On Sept. 15, a Central Islip man was arrested at JC Penny, at the Sunrise Mall, Massapequa and charged with petty larceny.
