Massapequa Progresses Despite Nor'Easter

The Massapequas took another hit from Mother Nature Wednesday night as a Nor'easter passed through the area bringing rain heavy winds and several inches of snow.

But despite this, Massapequa Park mayor James Altadonna said they're "recovering."

The mayor said that he and Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto were able to help get the Birch Lane school re-energized, although it remained closed on Thursaday because of the snow.

Areas of Bar Harbor also saw power return on Thursday according to the mayor. 

The mayor acknowledged that "power wasn't returning as fast as everyone would like, but praised the governor's office for the assistance they've provided the village.

The governor's office has also agreed to have a representative from the New York State Office of Financial Services come to Village Hall at 151 Front Street to assist residents with any type of insurance claim or concern.

The representative will be there on Thursday and Friday of this week and from Tuesday to Thursday next week, officials said.

Meanwhile, there were power outages further west in Massapequa in the area south of Merrick Road Between Forest Avenue and Anchor Drive according to Fire Chief Stephen Daresta.

But the good news was there were no fires overnight Wednesday into Thursday, Daresta said.
