Massapequa School Board Votes In Favor of BOCES Budget

The Massapequa Board of Education voted to pass the proposed Nassau BOCES 2013-14 budget at a special meeting held Wednesday morning.
The district is required by law to vote on the  Administrative Operative budget, which is paid for by the 56 school districts that make up BOCES.
This year’s proposed administrative spending plan totals $19.6 million according to superintendent Alan Adcock.  Masapequa is responsible for paying $1.8  million of the total budget, which includes funds for buildings BOCES rents  as well as money for capital improvement projects.
The district’s shares are prorated according to enrollment with large districts like Massapequa paying a larger share.
The $1.8 million share is a one percent increase from last year’s budget according to Adcock.
The Board voted unanimously to pass the spending plan. Vice President Tim Taylor and Board member Joseph LaBella were not at the meeting.  The results of the full district vote, won’t be announced for several days.
Votes were also taken to approve three BOCES Board members. The Board voted to select Ronald Ellerbe, Martin Kaye and Robert B.A. Schoen. All were approved unanimously.
The school Board will meet again Thursday to vote on the Massapequa District’s proposed school budget.
