Massapequa Sends 14 Students to Youth Summit

Fourteen talented Massapequa students attended the summit at Dowling College. See what they learned here.

Fourteen students from MHS Main Campus and Ames Campus were selected as finalists to attend the 6th Annual Long Island Youth Summit at Dowling College this past April. They completed research on a variety of topics including the toxic waste and renewable energy, but most popular were the socio-medical topics of bullying, social networking, mental health and well-being. Two students, Joseph Prusan and Ryan Gray, under the direction of teacher and mentor August Eberling, were even awarded with top honors for their efforts in finding alternative energy sources.

Students were presented with a Certificate of Scholarship Eligibility to Dowling College.

The Youth Summit provided students an opportunity to discuss their finding in small breakout sessions, before reconvening for the awards presentation. The students also had the unique opportunity to hear from top experts in their respective fields. Students who were selected as top category winners were offered opportunities to apply for a paid internship with the North-Shore LIJ Health System and with other Summit sponsor organizations.
