Massapequa Students Head Back To School

Students across the district picked up their backpacks once again as the 2022-23 school year started.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — A new school year started in Massapequa on Sept. 1. About an hour after sunrise, the doors opened at the high school campuses, followed by Berner Middle School and then the six elementary schools.

The day featured introductions, a review of classroom routines and expectations and, of course, plenty of learning. At McKenna Elementary School, a blue and yellow balloon arch courtesy of the PTA served as the entryway for students on their first day. Outside of Fairfield, “Welcome Back 22-23” was colorfully written in chalk outside the main entrance.

“There was a high level of excitement and enthusiasm among all of our students, teachers and staff as they returned to school,” said Superintendent Dr. William Brennan as he traveled to schools throughout the district one the first day. “Chief pride was evident as our doors opened again and this promises to be a tremendous year with great achievements and successes ahead.”

“I’m looking forward to spending as much time with my friends, making memories and having a great school,” Giller said, adding that she is ready for the challenge of her college composition class and excited for her senior season on the basketball and lacrosse teams.
