Nassau County Sets Up Pop-Up COVID Vaccine Booster Shot Clinics

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — County Executive Laura Curran announced today that Nassau would start administering booster shots of coronavirus vaccines, and would be holding pop-up clinics to help gets shots in the arms of residents.

The CDC recently expanded the eligibility for who can receive a booster shot. Anyone 65 and older who received a Moderna or Pfizer vaccine is eligible for a booster six months after their last dose. Additionally, anyone 18 and older who lives in a long-term care facility, has an underlying medical condition, or lives or works in high-risk settings are also eligible for boosters.

Anyone 18 and older who received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine is eligible for a booster two months after they got their shot.

"We must continue to keep our communities safe, keep our schools open and our businesses running," Curran said.

The county will be holding two pop-up clinics for eligible residents to get booster shots. The first will be this Saturday, Oct. 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nassau Community College. The second will be on Nov. 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Yes We Can Community Center, located at 141 Garden St. in Westbury.

Additionally, the county will be offering booster shots at its weekly vaccination clinic at the Department of Health office, and will be expanding the hours to accommodate more people. The Department of Health will be administering vaccines and boosters wednesdays from 2:30 to 7 p.m. at its office at 200 County Seat Drive in Mineola.

Appointments are recommended to make things smoother, but walk-ins will be taken. Residents need to bring proof of their previous rounds of vaccinations to get booster shots. The county is only offering Moderna and Johnson & Johnson shots.

Curran said that, if the demand is there, the county will add more pop-up booster shot clinics.
