Massapequa,NY - The North Massapequa Fire Department continues to rebuild this week after an early morning fire on Christmas Day damaged the department headquarters and multiple emergency vehicles. The department is functioning and is able to respond to calls, operating out of a second station on Hicksville Road and using donated trucks from other towns across Long Island.

Chief Joseph Pesale, Jr. tells Patch that despite the fire the department is fully capable of responding to all emergencies. Other fire departments have donated equipment and support. In a letter to Massapequa Patch Pesale reassured the community that the department is up and running and able to respond to local needs.

"Our substation on Hicksville Road is fully operational and prepared to rapidly respond to any fire or rescue emergency. Additionally , neighboring fire departments have provided apparatus and offered logistical support as needed. Also, all levels of local government, including the Town Of Oyster Bay and Nassau County, have pledged their full cooperation and support. "
