Parade Honoring Massapequa Little Leaguers Set For Wednesday

MASSAPEQUA PARK, NY — To honor the victories of Massapequa's many excellent Little League teams, Nassau County, the Town of Oyster Bay and the Village of Massapequa Park are joining together to throw a parade in celebration.

The parade is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31. It will honor the Massapequa Coast Little League Metro-Region Champions (12-year-old Division), the Massapequa International Little League New York State Softball Champions (12-year-old Division), and the Massapequa Coast Little League New York State Champions (11-year-old Division).

The parade will step off at the intersection of Park Boulevard and Lakeshore Drive, and head south for about a mile to end at Front Street.

"We are so proud of our hometown champions and invite the entire community to come out and cheer them on as we celebrate with a parade in downtown Massapequa Park," said Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino. "These amazing young athletes are an inspiration to us all and we are thrilled to celebrate and acknowledge their sportsmanship, perseverance and dedication."

The 12-year-old Massapequa Coast Little League boys made history when they became the Metro-Region Champions and advanced to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, being the first team from Long Island since 1978 to do so.

This summer, Massapequa International Little League's 12U Softball Williamsport team also made history when they captured the New York State Championship — no softball team from Massapequa or surrounding towns had ever advanced so far. The 11-year-old Massapequa Coast Little League team also made history when they took the New York State Championship back to back, both in 2021 and 2022.

"Everyone across Nassau County came together to root for America's team as they made their incredible run that culminated with a trip to the Little League World Series. These players showed unbelievable heart, poise, professionalism and grit throughout their historic journey and represented Nassau County well," said County Executive Bruce Blakeman. "We are thrilled to give all of these champions the hero's welcome they deserve and invite everyone to join us in Massapequa Park to show their support!"
