Peter and Paul

Extolling candy is not normally part of my holistic repertoire but sit tight for a moment.

Remember the entertaining commercial for the indulgent chocolate bar with the amusing jingle, "Peter Paul's Almond Joy's got nuts, Mounds don't, because sometimes you feel like a nut and sometimes you don't."

This playful melodious television ditty instantly evokes the memory of my cousin Marie at her brother Paul's baby shower.

A relative inquired, "What will they name the baby?"

Another blurted out, "Peter Paul if it is a boy."

My quick-witted cousin disapprovingly in a snarky tone quipped, "And will it be Almond Joy if it is a girl?"

Huge score for her as everyone roared with understanding and glee at her astoundingly astute and cleverly formulated response.

Indubitably, names are very important.

It is the outer lens that establishes how the world addresses and references us, and it could even go down in history.

Both Peter and Paul were distinguished disciples and saints alike, who are commemorated on the Solemn Feast of Saint Peter and Paul, heartily celebrated annually on June 29th, honoring two outstanding and outspoken Apostles of Jesus Christ who forged forward despite life threatening obstacles, ridicule, and condemnation, and thereby firmly established the Catholic Church and inadvertently off-shoot Christian denominations.

Their transcendental vision was crystal clear.

Humanness can interfere with spirituality, leaving one feeling isolated, fearful, and lost, but Peter and Paul were lucid trusted missionaries with divergently different backgrounds and beliefs.

Peter, the fisher of men who dropped his net and followed Christ on the first invitation, and is the enduring indestructible rock, founder of the Catholic Church, and first Pope.

Paul, in glaring contrast, was the feared notorious Christian decimator, who required a more drastic and radical measure that literally brought him to his knees, reconciling him by a temporary blindness that ultimately helped him see the light.
We are both called by a particular name and called by the Lord.

We may not always feel or act saintly, but the potential is ever-present, waiting for a cue and Heavenly nudge.

God knew our name before our parents even considered or embarked on pregnancy.

Whatever your name or calling, you are holy, anointed, and fully equipped.

The path of a saint could be a long arduous persevering journey that alters one's life as well as those around them often with far reaching repercussions and legacies.

It might require abandoning possessions and limited mindsets, or completely reorienting, but the arrival point is divine destiny.

No need to feel unworthy or unsure.

Saints are not perfect so keep the faith and do not be dissuaded.

The odds are in your favor because God has cleared the way.

Welcome to humanness with its unavoidable flaws and overwhelming setbacks, where sometimes we feel like a saint, and sometimes we don't.

~ "And he gave some as Apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers, to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the Body of Christ...," Ephesians 4:11-12. ~
