Police: Massapequa Man Left Daughter Alone at Carmans Plaza

Off duty NYPD officer spots wandering 2-year old.

A Massapequa man left his 2-year-old daughter wandering unattended for more than an hour at the Carman's Plaza shopping center, police said.

Wayne Voigt, 37, was placed under arrest Saturday afternoon, hours after the toddler was spotted by an off duty NYPD officer.

The cop spotted the girl in the parking lot at 10:22 a.m,  and called 911. Authorities took her to a local hospital and found her to be in good health.

Later Voigt and the girl's mother came to the area looking for her. Police said Voigt appeared to be "in a delusional state" and couldn't remember where he left his daughter. Voigt was under the influence of prescription pills, according to police.

He was arrested an charged with endangering the welfare of a child.  At the time of the arrest, he was suffering from an accelerated heart rate and was admitted to the hospital, police said.

The child was released to her mother, police said.
