The Massapequa School District canceled Winter Break to make up for the days lost after Hurricane Sandy. Was it the right move?

New York State requires students to be in school a minimum of 180 days.

The district will also use a snow emergency day on May 24.
School officials had a tough decision to make and not making up the days would result in loss of state aid. Superintendent Charles Sulc argued that waiting until later means assuming that there will be no bad weather this winter, which would cancel more days.
