Three Massapequa Schools Briefly on Lock Out

Police activity near Birch Lane Elementary causes precautionary measure.

A police investigation in Massapequa briefly caused three schools to initiate lock out procedures, school and police officials said.

The emergency procedure, which closed schools to visitors while normal activities  remained in place inside, began at about 1:30 p.m. at Birch Lane and Fairfield Elementary Schools as well as the Main campus of Massapequa High school.

It ended 45 minutes later. Officials said it was done as a precaution because of a police investigation near Birch Lane.
