Town Hosts First 2013 Cleanup Day Saturday

Massapequans and Town of Oyster Bay residents may dispose of household items.

If you’re ready to do some cleaning in the Town of Oyster Bay this weekend, have a place to go to get rid of unwanted items.

The town will host the first of eight  Homeowners Cleanup programs on Saturday.
It will be held at the Town’s Solid Waste Disposal Complex,  at 101 Bethpage-Sweet Hollow Road in Old Bethpage, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“This program is an especially popular one within the Town, and with ‘spring cleaning’ fresh on the minds of all as the weather warms up, this program might just be the catalyst needed to tackle that cumbersome garage or basement cleanup,”  Town Councilman Chris Coschignano said.

Residents may bring large metal items as well as yard waste and clean broken concrete, which will be recycled.  Town officials ask that you pre-separate the items.

If you plan to bring any boats or campers, proof of ownership must be provided and signed over to the town. The boats must be drained of all oil, gas and other fluids, and all batteries must be removed.

You can also  get rid of  bushes, tree limbs, fence posts and similar items. They  will be accepted as is and need not be broken into smaller pieces.

Used tires, large metal items in excess of four feet, clean fill, clean broken concrete, and boats and boat trailers will also be accepted.

Passenger cars, vans, pickup trucks and small trailers will be admitted to the facility. Six-wheel or larger vehicles are not permitted.

E-waste may be disposed of, but no hazardous waste will be accepted, officials said.
