Two Jackets

And A Sonnet

And not because of politics, either then or now.

Rather because I remembered the day the then Leader of our country had difficulty putting on his jacket.

I recalled feeling a vague sympathy for President Biden on the afternoon when the incident was shown on tv, but also a flash of envy because the elderly gentleman always had so much help.

I had none today when I wrestled with removing my own navy blue blazer and admittedly it was a struggle. Frankly, it became a battle between the garment and me. The well made Eileen Fisher jacket came close to winning, and I came closer to having an anxiety attack.

Thinking about the incident later, I wondered how comfortable I would have been watching my age related clumsiness pictured on a TV screen.

Frankly, I would have been humiliated as well as embarrassed realizing another of the unexpected indignities of age could be viewed by thousands of my fellow citizens.

I have never been old before, but I wish I had read Shakespeare’s opinion not about jackets, but age before it arrived in my life.

They have their exits and their entrances,

And one man in his time plays many parts

And all the men and women merely players.”
