MASSAPEQUA, NY — The student council at Massapequa's Unqua Elementary School has been busy the past few months with community service projects. Following a successful Thanksgiving food drive, the student leadership group then collected winter accessories throughout December.

Although it’s called the mitten tree, students and staff could give anything that will help people stay warm this winter, including hats and scarves. They could hang donations on a festive tree in the main lobby, before student council members packed up the items to be delivered to the YES Community Counseling Center in Massapequa.
