Man Dies After His E-Bike Collides With A Pickup Truck In Suffolk: Police

UPDATE: The 5th Squad in Patchogue is investigating the circumstances, police say.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A man riding an e-bike died after it collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Route 112 and Woodside Avenue in Medford on Friday morning, Suffolk police said.

Officers were called to the scene, after Gilberto Guilbe was operating an e-bike eastbound on Woodside Avenue when it collided with a northbound 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck on Route 112 at around 6:17 a.m., according to police.

Guilbe, 35, of Far Rockaway, was taken to NYU Langone Hospital – Suffolk in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, police said, adding that the driver of the pickup truck, a 39-year-old man from Bay Shore, was not hurt.

The Chevrolet and e-bike were impounded for a safety check, police said.

Route 112 was closed in both directions at Woodside Avenue, and Westbound Woodside Avenue is also closed at Old Medford Avenue, as well as eastbound Woodside Avenue at Mt. Vernon Avenue, according to police.
