1 Killed, 1 Critically Injured In 2-Car Columbia County Crash
State troopers were initially sent to a report of two vehicles that were fully engulfed by fire.
GREENPORT, NY — One person was killed and another critically injured in a two-car crash in Columbia County Monday.
The New York State Police said the crash happened around 5:45 p.m. on Route 23 in the town of Greenport.
Troopers were sent to a location near Ponderosa Drive by Columbia County 911 for two vehicles that were fully engulfed by fire.

Members of the Greenport Fire Department extricated Michelle J. Burnham, 59, of Delanson, Schenectady County, from her burning 2003 Hyundai Elantra and turned her over to Greenport Rescue for medical care.
She was taken to Albany Medical Center in critical condition.

David Warfield, 57, of Hudson, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Tacoma was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Authorities said the initial investigation found that Warfield was traveling east on Route 23 in the westbound lane while passing multiple vehicles.
Warfield then struck Burnham’s car in the eastbound lane while trying to avoid an uninvolved westbound vehicle.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
