Bowers and Schell had called the Fallsburg police Saturday afternoon about the apparent disappearance of Encarnacion.

Authorities said the circumstances described in the report, along with the fact that missing person reports have the possibility of tragic results, led the state police and the Fallsburg police to employ numerous investigative resources in the case.

The investigation ultimately determined that the three women had acted in concert to make the false report while the location and wellbeing of Encarnacion was never in doubt, according to law enforcement.

The three women were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Fallsburg Justice Court March 8.
