5 Dogs Dead, 1 Person Injured In Hudson Valley Barn Fire

UNION VALE, NY — A tragic fire in Dutchess County has left one person seriously injured, and resulted in the deaths of five animals.

The Union Vale Fire Department says that on Tuesday, around 10:20 a.m., they were called to Wisseman Road, in the Town of Union Vale, after receiving a report of a barn fire. They were joined by an engine from the LaGrange Fire District and the East Fishkill Fire District F.A.S.T. team as part of the pre-planned first alarm assignment.

Union Vale Engine 67-14 had been nearby, at a Fire Prevention Safety Day at the Vail Farm Elementary School, when they saw a large column of black smoke in the area. While responding, they requested a second alarm assignment for additional resources.

Within minutes, Engine 67-14 and LFD Engine 47-11 began fire suppression, with a focus on nearby exposures that were beginning to be affected by the heat and fire damage.

The fire department says that the fire was under control at 12:10 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

One person was treated and taken to Westchester County Medical Center by ambulance for injuries received at the scene.

Five dogs died inside the barn during the fire.
