6-Year-Old Child Repeatedly Stabbed, 30-Year-Old Poughkeepsie Woman Later Arrested
Police said that a second child in the home witnessed the attack and flagged down passing drivers who called 911, and then rushed to help.

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A Hudson Valley woman is behind bars following unspeakable violence against a child, according to police.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department says that 30-year-old Karen A. Rendon, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested in connection with the repeated stabbing of a six-year-old child.
On Saturday, around 5:57 p.m., police responded to a Creek Road home after receiving a report of a child with several stab wounds.

Once at the scene, officers found two people who were already administering aid to the injured child. Police continued lifesaving measures and secured the home until EMS personnel arrived.

Additional members of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, and the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office responded to the scene.
Investigators said Rendon stabbed the child and fled the home.
Around 2:11 a.m. on Monday, a Town of Poughkeepsie police officer found Rendon in the Parker Ave. area of the City of Poughkeepsie, and took her into custody.
Rendon was charged with felony first-degree assault, felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
On Sunday, Rendon was arraigned in the Town of Pougkeepsie Justice Court, and was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $500,000 cash bail, $1 million insurance bond, or $1.5 million partially secured bond.
Police say the six-year-old child is currently in stable condition and is expected to recover. They also thanked "the citizens who acted swiftly and courageously to assist the young victim."
