31-Year-Old Arrested After Sexually Assaulting A Child, According To NYSP Investigators

RED HOOK, NY — A Dutchess County man is accused of sexually abusing a child, according to state police.

The New York State Police say that the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Rhinebeck arrested 31-year-old Julio C. Vargas Martinez, of Red Hook, on charges of felony first-degree sexual abuse (sexual contact with a victim younger than 13 by a defendant 21 or older), and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

On Thursday, state police received information about a sexual assault involving a child. Investigators say Vargas Martinez engaged in sexual contact with a victim younger than 13.

He was arraigned in Red Hook Town Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 bond, or $100,000 partially secured bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17.

State police say that the Red Hook Police Department and the Child Advocacy Center assisted in the investigation.
