65-Year-Old Pedestrian Struck By Volvo, Seriously Injured On NYE
Anyone who may have information about the crash is being asked to contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — 2024 ended on a sour note for a Dutchess County woman, who was seriously hurt trying to cross the street on New Year's Eve.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is investigating a collision involving an SUV and a pedestrian at 10:17 a.m.
The crash happened on Hooker Avenue at the intersection with Austin Court.

Police said a 2017 Volvo V60 SUV, driven by a man from Poughkeepsie, was traveling northwest on Hooker Avenue toward the intersection. A 65-year-old Poughkeepsie woman was attempting to cross the road, northbound, at or near a crosswalk, when she was struck by the SUV, according to police.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The driver is cooperating with investigators, according to police.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted at the scene by members of the Arlington Fire Department, Empress Ambulance and the Dutchess County Sherriff's Office. Hooker Avenue was closed from the time of the crash until approximately 2:15 p.m. while a crash reconstruction was conducted.
The investigation is ongoing and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is asking anyone who may have information regarding the crash to contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-790-4685.
