Armed Man At Shop Turned Out To Be 72-Year-Old In Crisis With A BB Gun

TIVOLI, NY — A potentially fraught situation at a Hudson Valley business was resolved with an elderly man getting some much needed help from professionals, according to authorities.
On Saturday afternoon, Red Hook police received a call about a man with a handgun inside the Thrift 2 Fight thrift shop located on Broadway, in the Village of Tivoli.
Employees of the Thrift 2 Fight shop reported the man appeared to be in crisis, making several "concerning" statements. The workers called 911. Officers located and detained the man who they say was in possession of a holstered "BB pistol."

The 72-year-old Red Hook resident was indeed having a mental health crisis and was taken into custody to MidHudson Regional Hospital for a mental health evaluation, according to police officials.
Red Hook police were assisted on scene by the New York State Police, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, and New York State Forest Rangers.
