The Poughkeepsie man claimed images exchanged online were of a child and threatened to report the victim unless he paid him, police said.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — An elaborate extortion scheme backfired, according to police.

New York State Police say that on Dec. 4, troopers arrested a Poughkeepsie man for extorting around $22,000 in cash from a local resident.
