Driver Arrested For Appearing To Be Asleep At An Intersection: NYSP

A passenger appeared to be asleep as well, according to cops. The driver is a Kingston police officer, according to media reports.

KINGSTON, NY — A driver arrested in a precarious situation is a police officer, according to a published report in the Kingston-based Daily Freeman.

The New York State Police say that 46-year-old Eric J. VanAllen, of Kingston, was arrested on Dec. 13 for a misdemeanor DWI.

At 12:54 a.m., troopers responded to a 911 call about two men sleeping in a vehicle at the intersection of State Route 208 and State Route 44/55.

Once on the scene, they found a 2025 Dodge Power Ram pickup truck stopped at the intersection of State Route 208 and State Route 44/55, with a man appearing to be asleep in the driver's seat. A man in the passenger's seat also appeared to be asleep.

VanAllen was arrested and taken to SP Highland for processing. He was then released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Gardiner Court on January 8.

According to the Kingston-based Daily Freeman, VanAllen is a longtime Kingston police officer and the Kingston Police Department is expected to take disciplinary action against him.
