During Pursuit Man Loses Control, Slams Car Into House: Police

The crash caused significant damage to the Newburgh home and injured one person who was inside.

NEWBURGH, NY — A Newburgh man was accused of damaging a house when he lost control of the SUV he was driving and rammed into it after trying to get away from police during a pursuit.

Around 2:10 a.m. Saturday, troopers from the Montgomery barracks tried to stop a 2018 Nissan Murano on Creek Run Road in the town of Newburgh for vehicle and traffic law violations.

Hector Balbuena, 21, of Newburgh, who was driving the SUV, filed to comply and fled from the state police, authorities said.

While trying to get away from the police, Balbuena lost control of the vehicle and struck a house at 1 Woodlawn Terrace in the town of Newburgh, police said.

The crash caused significant damage to the home, according to authorities, with one occupant receiving minor injuries. The person was treated at the scene.

Balbuena was removed from the SUV and taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

He was treated and released into the custody of the state police.

Balbuena was issued numerous vehicle and traffic law tickets and an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Newburgh Court on May 7.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
