Off-Duty NYPD Officer Killed In Palisades Crash Is ID'd By Officials
His 2019 Subaru was traveling north, when it left the roadway and struck a tree in the median, according to New York State Police.

HIGHLANDS, NY — The off-duty NYPD officer killed in an early morning crash has been identified by police.
New York State Police say that on Friday, around 6:05 a.m., troopers responded to a one-car crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway north, in the town of Highlands.
The driver has been identified as 45-year-old Charles A. Cato, an off-duty NYPD officer from New Windsor.

Investigators said his 2019 Subaru was traveling north, when it left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a tree in the median, just north of exit 19.
He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he died.

State police say the incident remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is being asked to contact troopers in Middletown at 845-344-5300, and reference case number NY2400969180.
