Explosion Kills Worker At Scrap Recycling Facility In Orange County

TOWN OF MONTGOMERY, NY — An industrial accident has claimed the life of a worker in Orange County.

The Town of Montgomery Police Department said that around 10:40 a.m., on Wednesday, Orange County 911 dispatched officers to ASAP Scrap Recycling, on State Route 208, after reports of an explosion with injuries.

At the scene, Town of Montgomery police officers and Walden Fire Department members found no active fire at the location. They were assisted by the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police.

Police say a 50-year-old man from Middletown was found dead at the scene. He was an employee who was reportedly using a cutting torch when the explosion took place, according to police.

The Town of Montgomery Police Department says the accident investigation is ongoing.
