Former Substitute Teacher Accused Of Sexual Misconduct, Endangering Welfare Of Child: NYSP

The 25-year-old worked at Monroe-Woodbury HS, and attended a church in Harriman, where he interacted with both of his victims, cops said.

HIGHLAND MILLS, NY — A disgraced educator has been accused of abusing at least two students, according to state police.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) at Monroe says that 25-year-old Joshua R. DeCoteau, of Highland Mills, was arrested on June 20 after an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct involving a minor.

He was charged with misdemeanor forcible touching, and six counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child (acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17).

The investigation started in April, when the Blooming Grove Police Department referred a report of sexual abuse to state police. DeCoteau is accused of forcibly touching the intimate parts of a minor and endangering the welfare of two minors.

Police say that DeCoteau was a former substitute teacher at Monroe-Woodbury High School, and also attended The Journey Church in Harriman, where he would interact with both of his victims.

He is scheduled to appear in Village of Harriman Court on July 16, and in Village of Monroe Court on August 5.
