Heavy Rain, Possible Thunderstorms In Hudson Valley Forecast: What To Expect
Find out when to best plan outdoor activities this weekend.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The weekend is expected to bring a significant period of rainfall, along with the chance of thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.
Michael Main, a meteorologist based in the National Weather Service’s Albany office, said rain is expected to arrive in the region late on Friday.
Locally heavy rain is likely Friday night into Saturday as “intensifying low pressure passes through,” according to a weather alert issued Thursday.

Main estimates the region could get 1.25 to 1.75 inches of rain before the precipitation tapers off Saturday afternoon.
“The rain will be pretty steady, and heavy at times,” Main said. “It would not be surprising to see nuisance ponding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.”

Significant flooding is not expected, however, according to Main.
There could be some thunderstorms Friday night and into Saturday, though the National Weather Service is not expecting any severe thunderstorms in the Hudson Valley, Main said.
Sunday appears to be the best day of the weekend for outdoor activities.
“Sunday looks better than Saturday - there will be some showers still around on Sunday, but it won’t be a washout,” Main said.
Temperatures will remain on the cool side this weekend, with Friday being the warmest day, with highs around the mid-70s. It will be cooler on Saturday, and by Sunday, the high temperatures will only be in the upper 60s, according to Main.
