High Winds, Power Outages Anticipated In Hudson Valley: What To Expect
Find out the latest timeline for precipitation and gusty winds, according to meteorologists.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Rain and gusty winds are expected in the Hudson Valley region overnight Wednesday, bringing the potential for power outages, according to the National Weather Service.
A wind advisory is in effect for the mid-Hudson Valley from 7 p.m. tonight through 8 a.m. Thursday.
Abbey Gant, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service based in Albany, said there will be sustained winds of up to 25 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 55 miles per hour.

“With wind gusts of 50 to 55 miles per hour, you can see downed limbs and even trees coming down, if they are dead or unhealthy,” Gant said. “There definitely could be power outages overnight and into tomorrow morning.”
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms also will impact the mid-Hudson Valley region Wednesday evening.

According to Gant, any thunderstorms are not expected to be severe.
The winds are expected to gradually weaken over the day Thursday, with maximum gusts around 30 miles per hour.
After Thursday, the next chance for precipitation is on Friday night, according to Gant.
High daytime temperatures through Sunday are expected to be in the 50s and low 60s.

Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 61. South wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of showers between 11 p.m. and midnight. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 41. Southwest wind 10 to 14 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.
Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29. Light and variable wind.
Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.
Friday Night: Rain. Low around 46. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 64.
Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40.
Sunday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tonight: A slight chance of showers between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 44. Windy, with a southwest wind 11 to 16 mph becoming west 21 to 26 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 53. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
Thursday Night: Areas of frost after 2 a.m. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 33. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 57. Light south wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph.
Friday Night: Showers likely, mainly between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., then rain likely after 5 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
