Hudson Valley Flooding: Meteorologists Predict When The Region Will Dry Out

Monday's downpours led to several road closures in the region.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The region is expected to get a brief reprieve from wet weather after Monday’s downpours led to flooding and road closures.

Christina Speciale, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Albany, said Tuesday is expected to be a “really nice day,” with mostly sunny skies.

According to Speciale, recent dry weather in the Hudson Valley region helped mitigate the impact of Monday’s downpours.

As of Tuesday, the region is still recovering from the strong storms, which stranded motorists and led to a partial building collapse.

There is a slight chance for additional thunderstorms to impact the region late Tuesday and overnight, Speciale said.

“Wednesday and Thursday bring the next opportunity for storms with heavy downpours and gusty winds,” Speciale said.

The region is expected to experience high heat and humidity in the coming days.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat-related hazardous weather outlook for southeast New York, including Westchester, Orange, Putnam and Rockland counties, starting Wednesday.

High temperatures will reach into the low 90s, and there is a potential for heat indices, or how it feels when factoring in humidity, to reach around 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

“Today will be very warm, and Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be very humid too,” Speciale said.
