Hudson Valley Weather: Cooler Temps, Rain Potential This Week
Meteorologists are monitoring the potential for minor flooding in the Hudson River due to Hurricane Erin.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Hurricane Erin is not expected to have significant effects on the region, though meteorologists are monitoring the potential for minor flooding along the Hudson River.
NOAA’s National Hurricane Center is warning that Erin is expected to produce life-threatening surf and rip currents along much of the east coast of the U.S. during the next several days. The storm is expected to be pushed out to sea without making landfall in the U.S.
Kevin Lipton, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service based in Albany, said he doesn’t anticipate the storm will negatively impact the Hudson Valley.

Meteorologists are monitoring potential tidal effects on the Hudson River, however, according to Lipton.
“It could lead to higher than normal (water) levels on Tuesday through Thursday, we are keeping an eye on it,” Lipton said, on Monday. “We can’t rule out minor flooding near the Hudson River on Wednesday to Thursday, but we currently don’t have any watches or warnings in effect.”

The same frontal system which is expected to push the hurricane out to sea could bring rain to the Hudson Valley region on Wednesday and Thursday, according to Lipton.
“It is still just a chance for rain right now,” Lipton said. “It is getting dry out there, and rain is needed.”
Overall, Hudson Valley residents can expect a cool and mostly dry week ahead.
“The heat is gone, and it will be comfortable all week - it will be a good time to turn off air conditioners and sleep with the windows open,” Lipton said.
High temperatures during the daytime this week will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s, with low humidity, according to forecasters.
