K9 'Vinn' Sniffs Out Kilo Of Fentanyl Hidden In Camry On The Taconic: NYSP

EAST FISHKILL, NY — A police dog with a nose for crime helped take a kilo of a potentially deadly drug off the streets.

New York State Police say that on Wednesday, around 3:15 p.m., members of the New York State Police Troop K Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) made a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry on the Taconic State Parkway, in the town of East Fishkill, for traffic violations.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was identified as 36-year-old Carmelo Arroyo Miranda, of the Bronx.

State police say that K-9 Vinn was brought over for an exterior scan of the car, and alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics inside.

During a search, troopers found a rectangular, compressed package with around 1,095.8 grams of fentanyl, NYSP said. In addition, a pill bottle filled with numerous glassine envelopes containing a gray, powdery substance consistent with narcotics was found, according to troopers.

Miranda was arraigned in the Town of East Fishkill Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.
