K9 'Wild' Sniffs Out 1.4Kg Of Coke On Taconic Hidden In Trunk: NYSP

TOWN OF STANFORD, NY — A K9, named "Wild," is being credited with helping to take a substantial amount of illegal drugs off the streets.

New York State Police say that on Monday, troopers from the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) pulled over a Ford sedan traveling north on the Taconic State Parkway, in the Town of Stanford.

The driver and only occupant was identified as 41-year-old Tamar W. Knight, of Niskayuna.

After an exterior sniff of the vehicle, NYSP K9 Wild alerted troopers to the presence of narcotics, according to police. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of around 1,436 grams of cocaine hidden in the trunk, cops said.

During the search, Knight tried to flee on foot, but was immediately caught and arrested without further incident, NYSP reported.

Knight was charged with felony first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (intent to sell), and misdemeanor obstruction of governmental administration.

He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
