Kidnapped 14-Year-Old Rescued, 24-Year-Old Kidnapping Suspect Arrested In Ulster County: Police

Police say the Virginia man took the 14-year-old against the child's will from the Baltimore area, and drove the victim to Kingston.

KINGSTON, NY — A 24-year-old man has been charged in the kidnapping of a Baltimore teen who was rescued today in Ulster County, according to police.

The City of Kingston Police Department arrested 24-year-old Omar Gutierrez Sanchez, a Virginia man with no known address.

Police say Gutierrez Sanchez took the 14-year-old against the child's will from the Baltimore area and drove the victim to Kingston.

Gutierrez Sanchez refused several requests from the victim and the victim's family to return the child or let the child leave, according to authorities. Both Gutierrez Sanchez and the kidnap victim were found together in Kingston, police said.

Gutierrez Sanchez and the victim were acquainted with each other, but there is no family relationship or other close relationship, according to police.

Gutierrez Sanchez has been charged him with felony kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in Kingston City Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail on $200,000 cash bail or bond.

Kingston police say additional charges are possible in Kingston and Baltimore County.

The Kingston Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Ulster County Sheriff's Office and by the Baltimore County Police Department.
