LI Woman Accused Of Bringing Drugs Into Ulster Correctional

Police said she had the drugs on her when she was visiting and was intending to sell them.

WAWARSING, NY — A Long Island woman was arrested after being accused of trying to bring drugs into the Ulster Correctional Facility.

The New York State Police said, around 3:15 p.m. Sunday, troopers were notified by the Ulster Correctional Facility in the town of Wawarsing that there was a female visitor in custody who was trying to bring illegal contraband into the facility.

She was identified as Julie Tate, 35, of Holtsville, Suffolk County.

Police said she was found to have 29 strips of buprenorphine and about 6.8 grams of synthetic cannabinoids.

Tate was arrested and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and two counts of second-degree promoting prison contraband, misdemeanors.

She was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Wawarsing Court Feb. 17.

Ulster Correctional Facility is a medium security level facility for men.
