Man Out On Probation Arrested With Stolen Handgun: Police

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A 25-year-old man on probation was accused of having a stole gun.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department said, around 6:15 p.m. Friday, officers made a traffic stop on South Clinton Street.

During the stop, Savon Bagby, 25, tried to flee from the vehicle on foot, police said,

As the foot chase proceded, authorities said Bagby tossed a loaded 9mm Glock model 19 handgun that had been reported as stolen out of Virginia.

He was taken into custody without further incident and was process at police headquarters.

Bagby was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, all felonies, according to new release.

Police also said the man was fond to be on federal probation at the time he was arrested.

In December, Bagby was among 31 Poughkeepsie street gang members sentenced for racketeering, narcotics and firearms offenses. He pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy and received a 50-month sentence.
