Mark Ruffalo, HBO Sued Over Fire At Car Dealership

Plaintiffs claim the fire at the location where the HBO miniseries "I Know This Much Is True" was being filmed ruined their nearby homes.

ELLENVILLE, NY — Mark Ruffalo and HBO are being sued by residents who live near a car dealership that caught fire during filming of the miniseries "I Know This Much Is True."

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit are claiming the fire exposed them to toxic fumes and ruined their homes, Deadline reported.

Ruffalo starred in the miniseries and was an executive producer.

Patch reached out to HBO for a comment but did not immediately receive a response.

The lawsuit, which was filed in Ulster County Supreme Court May 7, also names 613 Automotive owner Levi Hecht as a defendant, Daily Freeman reported.

The May 9, 2019, blaze that began about 1 a.m. was ruled accidental and was caused by "an unspecified electrical event."

Not only was the car dealership building a total loss, but three nearby houses had to be condemned because they were damaged by the fire.

Besides the car dealership building, about 20 vintage cars and multiple pieces of film equipment used by the production company for HBO were destroyed.

Mutual aid from several area companies were called in to assist the Ellenville Fire Department. The fire was knocked down around nine hours after it had begun.
